Loom Weaving

The Technical Labor Program in Loom Weaving fosters a unique relationship with textile fibers and various types of looms, guiding students toward building a meaningful life project through the creation of high-quality pieces that manifests the artisans’ spirit and craftsmanship.

Our certificate programs

The programs are designed to provide technical specialized training across two semesters: basic semester and specialization semester.

  • The basic semester serves as a prerequisite for any specialization within the loom weaving program.

  • During the first semester, students acquire foundational knowledge of the craft, while the second semester focuses on advanced techniques, allowing for the improvement of skills and expertise.

  • Each semester consists of 432 hours, totaling 864 hours per program and integrates a combination of technical and theoretical coursework, taught by highly qualified instructors.

  • The training is conducted in person, ensuring hands-on learning experience and feedback closely connected to the realities of the trade.

  • Students may focus on one of the following areas of specialization: Horizontal lever table loom, Vertical loom, Treadle horizontal floor loom.

Curriculum


Basic loom weaving semester

During the basic semester, students learn the essential aspects of loom weaving providing fundamental skills necessary for advancement into specialized levels. Through various techniques, precision and quality are ensured in every piece, establishing a solid foundation for creating unique designs. 

This stage introduces the core principles of loom weaving, from identifying and using materials, tools, and equipment to exploring basic weave structures that provide textiles with a wide variety textures and color combinations.

Additionally, the program provides a comprehensive approach of textiles, by studying their composition through the creation and deconstruction to understand their structure and functionality. This foundation fosters creativity and precision in the weaving craft.

The program includes the following subjects:

  • Backstrap loom

Specialization semesters

The specialization semesters  are practical training programs designed to deepen knowledge and skills in specific areas, incorporating a focus on micro-processes, quality parameters, and key references to foster strong quality awareness in each artisanal Technique.

After finishing the basic cycle, students continue the program by selecting one of the following areas of specialization.

Horizontal lever loom


Connect in a unique way with Horizontal Lever Looms and the most remarkable textile fibers in Weaving. Learn to create flat fabrics with exceptional complexity and detail, suitable for fashion and decoration.

The technical quality offered by this program ensures precise preparation and operation of lever looms, allowing the production of textiles that meet the highest quality standards in the artisanal textile sector.

Vertical loom


The vertical loom, also known as the high-warp loom, is one of the oldest types of loom in the weaving trade that allows the creation of both functional and artistic pieces. Learn this ancient art and produce high-quality textiles while preserving traditional techniques from millenary cultures across the world.
